Job Summary:

Under general supervision, prepares medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Adds measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) packs under pharmacist supervision.



• Answers telephone, responding to questions or requests



• Assists customers by answering simple questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information



• Computes charges for medication and equipment dispensed to hospital clients



• Enters medical and demographic data into a computer and assists in production and preparation of reports (including billing information)



• Fills bottles with prescribed medications and types and affixes labels



• Mixes pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions



• Prices and files prescriptions that have been filled



• Receives written prescription or refills requests and verifies that information is complete and accurate



• Supplies and monitors robotic machines that dispense medicine into containers, and labels the containers



• Transfers medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes using aseptic techniques

Enty Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED AND Two years of experience working in a pharmacy

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to Entry Qualifications, Preferred Qualifications may be added by the agency.
