Job Overview:

The Operating Room Nurse is a highly skilled and professional nurse dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals undergoing surgical procedures. This role involves a holistic approach to patient care, emphasizing the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of the patient's experience. The Operating Room Nurse works in close collaboration with surgeons and anesthesia care providers to ensure the smooth execution of surgical interventions. In this capacity, the nurse integrates both dependent and independent functions, operating under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager or their designee. This dual-functionality allows the nurse to adapt to the dynamic environment of the operating room, responding to immediate needs while also contributing to broader, strategic aspects of patient care. The Operating Room Nurse’s responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and providing preoperative and postoperative patient care. Through their expertise and collaborative approach, they play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients throughout the surgical process. The Operating Room Registered Nurse will also perform other job duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• All registered nurses must possess a minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in an operating room setting, excluding any agency-assigned tours of duty. They should be proficient in both scrubbing and circulating roles and must have worked in an operating room environment within the last six months.

Physical Requirements:

• Operating room (OR) nurses must maintain a high level of physical fitness to effectively carry out their duties, which often involve extended periods on their feet, lifting patients, and handling various physical tasks. Key physical requirements for OR nurses include:
• Endurance: Ability to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements such as CPR compressions.
• Strength: Capacity to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds, and support up to 50 pounds of weight.
• Flexibility: Capability to frequently bend, stoop, and squat.

Education Requirements:

• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency.
• The nursing program must have been accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time of completion:
• The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
• The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

Education Preferences:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Alternatively, an Associate’s Degree or diploma is acceptable with a valid license and current experience.

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM
