Description
Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Migrant Relocation Assistance Program, Migrant Relocation Assistance Specialist (MRAS) is responsible for ensuring families referred by the NYC Department of Homeless Services feel welcome, are informed of what to expect about life in the U.S. and are connected to critical services in the Rochester area. The MRAS will work with other community-based organizations, community members, and others to ensure families have secure, safe, sanitary, and affordable living quarters and financial to meet immediate and material needs.

•Reports to the Director of Migrant Relocation Assistance Program.
•This position operates within an OTDA grant-funded program, requiring specific services to be provided within set timeframes and with appropriate documentation of all activities through case management.
- Secure safe, sanitary, and affordable living quarters
- Coordinate financial assistance to transport the family to the housing, provide culturally appropriate, ready-to-eat food and seasonal clothing as necessary to meet immediate needs.
- Coordinate financial assistance to provide material needs, support, and services within 30 days.
- Arrange for and/or provide assistance related to USCIS or EIOR applications, notices and transportation for USCIS or EIOR appointments.
- Case management services for up to one year.
- Coordinate housing subsidy for up to one year including security deposit and first month's rent as applicable.
•Welcome newly arriving referred migrant families.
•Provide community orientation, advice, and assistance in addressing basic needs.
•Assist migrant participants in accessing appropriate services such as public assistance, education, health care, vocational and employment services.
•Encourage participants to work towards self-sufficiency and early employment.
•Maintain and complete case files and required documentation for each case.
•Maintain regular contact with assigned cases, including required home visits and housing needs assessment (every 90 days)
•Provide tenant responsibility, health and safety orientations to the families.
•Identify and address barriers to successful relocation as necessary.
•Operate as a cultural and linguistic broker between volunteers, church groups, service providers and migrant participants.
•Some evenings and weekends are required.
•Any other duties assigned deemed pertinent by Ibero-American Action League's President & CEO or designee.
Authority: This position holds some degree of independence within the framework of the agency's policies and procedures. The individual must be resourceful and able to display initiative and understanding of management systems and interpersonal relations. Must keep immediate supervisor abreast of issues and concerns which merit intervention from higher level management staff.

Requirements
Skills and Abilities: - HS Diploma or GED preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years' experience engaging in community-based services.
- Valid driver's license, ability to provide own transportation and travel to various locations.
- Experience working with community human services providers.
- Experience working with migrant populations preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- Must be able to perform all functions with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may considered.
Physical Demands: The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 10 lbs. And frequent sitting.
Salary Description
$19 to $23 per hour
