JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Summary of role of team :

  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will act as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing engagement and recovery support to assist clients, family members and other parties affected by substance use and co-occurring disorders.

Summary of position :

  • This position will provide engagement, navigation services and peer support to clients in residential and intensive outpatient recovery services.
  • The position will provide recovery coaching and support as clients move throughout the treatment continuum.

TYPICAL WORK CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

  • This position will take place in a combination of a typical office setting and may include community visits/transportation to community resources and services.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Quality Care.

  • Provides face to face engagement, peer support and recovery coaching for clients experiencing substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Collaborates to assess needs of clients and navigates clients into services and/or assists in acquiring needed resources.
  • Provides on-going daily support to the clinical team in relation to any client's needs.
  • Assists team in coordination of care for clients with intra/inter-agency programs, courts and other stakeholders.
  • Assists client with accessing transportation and provides transportation when other viable options are not available to ensure continuity of care.
  • Helps support program staff facilitating case management services between the primary care provider, behavioral health provider, pharmacy, specialists, and/or natural supports regarding health and recovery needs of the client.
  • Promotes recovery skills education and pro-social activities with the client and/or family.
  • Provides peer support during crisis intervention.
  • Assists in completing the recovery support plan and ensures provider, family and client participation in treatment planning as evidenced by signatures on care plans.
  • Attends and is timely to weekly multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Attends and participates in administrative/ staff team meetings without tardiness.
  • Responds to all flags, e-mails, and voicemails within 2 business days.

2. Documentation requirements.

  • Completes all required clinical documentation in accordance with Center Policy and Procedure and funding source guidelines.
  • Completes GPRAs or other client screening tools and enters data into the local/state/federal database.
  • Completes and signs EMR progress notes within two business days of encounter.
  • Assists Assessment & Recovery services team to ensure that all clients have an up-to-date ROI, care plan, crisis plan, consent to contact after discharge, DLA-20, and updated consents and signature admissions page every 6 months and/or as needed.
  • Supports treatment interventions that are reflected in progress note documentation based on the care plan goals.
  • Provides completed Client Contact Logs for outpatient services to program coordinator by date assigned.
  • Attends supervision with program supervisor.

3. Team Atmosphere.

  • Promotes an environment in which the culture and spiritual beliefs of the individual are respected.

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting salary for this position is approximately $16.90 /hr based on relevant experience and education.

QUALIFICATIONS - Knox Co. OA Peer Recovery Specialist

Education / License:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • A bachelor's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, or two years' experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, or co-occurring diagnoses preferred.
  • Must have experience as behavioral health services consumer and/or lived recovery experience.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Has or is willing to obtain the State of Tennessee Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Training (CPRS). Must have coursework and/or experience and understanding in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, and treatment of substance use disorder, understanding of trauma-informed care, suicide prevention, crisis intervention referral and knowledge of overdose reversal.

Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:

  • Exposure to biological hazards.
  • Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Valid driver's license (F-endorsement), as position may provide transportation for clients as they transition to different level of care.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Required to be certified in, and effectively implement, verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements; including but not limited to, grasping, holding another person, running, and walking.

Equipment/Technical Competency:

  • This position does require computer skills for timekeeping, scheduling and use of electronic medical records entry, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Outlook).

Schedule:

  • Mid-shift/2 nd shift, 5 days per week.
  • Currently, Tuesday-Saturday, with occasional adjustment of hours to meet client needs.
  • Shift differential will be paid for hours worked after 4pm.

Travel:

  • This position will require utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business.
  • Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
  • Staff members may be required to provide transportation in their personal vehicle and staff members are reimbursed for use of their vehicle for this purpose.
