Description:

Heat Treat Utility is responsible for operating various heat-treating furnaces, equipment, or processes, usually, mechanized units performing repetitive work to heat treat, temper harden, chromize, and oil quench similar products or materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description – other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed.

  • Ability the operate power mixer, case welding machine, plasma cutters, separator, washers, neutralizer machine, chromize furnace, re-hardening furnace, tempering and generator/gas units, and pin packing for U-Treat.
  • Familiarity with the purpose of chromize, chromizing's mechanism, chromizing's process, and major operational points of chromize such as replacement of cycle of chrome powder, atmosphere of cases and furnace and color of pins after re-hardening.
  • Operate various heat-treating furnaces, equipment, or processes, usually mechanized units performing repetitive work to heat treat, anneal, temper, carburize, harden, normalize, and oil quench a variety of similar products or materials. Vacuum degreaser washing and Sub-Zero process, operate gas generators. Process, procedures, etc., such as cycle time, temperature and methods are usually prescribed.
  • Checks control periodically and adjust for the specific requirements of parts or product. Secure and dispose of parts and product as required. Weigh, count, and record production data.
  • Detect faulty operation or defective material and report these and other operating conditions to the Group Leader or Supervisor.
  • The ability to follow detailed instructions for loading and unloading, regulating loads as prescribed.
  • Perform various quality control tests as specified for the various products or parts.
  • Maintain any departmental equipment involving the start-up, stopping or regulation, and adjustment as necessary or customarily performed.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required or directed or may be indicated by the volume or flow of work.
  • The ability to perform minor troubleshooting of equipment and adjustments per documented procedures.
  • Operation consists of actuating and regulating controls within the limits of prescribed procedures, loading, and unloading parts, and following detailed instructions and methods.
  • Maintain work area and equipment clean and orderly and follow standard safety regulations. Detect faulty operation or defective material and refer all questionable cases to Group Leader or Supervisors. Perform other similar and associated duties as required or directed.
  • Ability to utilize the production monitoring system to record downtime and use of material handling devices such as hand trucks and fork trucks will also be required.
  • Maintain work area and equipment clean and orderly and follow standard safety regulations.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • 2 -5 years experience running multiple machines and performing preventative maintenance.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer Skills.
